Members of the Tarayyar Ekklesiyoyin Kristi A Nijerriya (TEKAN) have demanded for the immediate and unconditional release of their president, Rev. Emmanuel Dziggau.
They have also tasked the Federal
Government and the security agencies to do everything possible to ensure
the safety of the cleric, who was abducted on Monday night in Kaduna.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday
in Jos, TEKAN’s General Secretary, Rev. Moses Ebuga, said the entire
followership of churches of Christ in Nigeria received with shock the
sudden news of the cleric’s abduction. He said the priest was in the
company of Rev. Illiya Anto and Rev. Yakubu Dzarma during the incident.
Said he: “We are not ignorant of the
recent scheming against the Nigerian church in regard to the upcoming
CAN national election, where the leaders have become the subject of
attack particularly the leadership of TEKAN/ECWA bloc in CAN.
“As a body, we are calling on the
government to do everything possible to ensure the safety of the leaders
and unearth their whereabouts, and to have the perpetrators fished out.
“We call on all the TEKAN churches and
the Nigerian Churches to rise up in prayers against the ugly development
that has gotten to the church, and that God will expose the sponsors
and perpetrators of this dastardly inhuman act.”
Meanwhile, THISDAY gathered from unconfirmed sources that the kidnappers are demanding for a ransom of N100 million.
