How to Propagate Carrots

Carrots make a tasty addition to the home vegetable garden.

Rich in antioxidants such as vitamins A and C, carrots are annual cool-season vegetables, perfect for the home vegetable garden in any of Sunset‘s Climate Zones. Easy to grow and care for, carrots are propagated from seed. Seeds are best obtained from a garden center or seed supply company, because carrots do not easily produce viable seeds. Sow carrot seeds outdoors in the garden any time of the year, ideally when temperatures average 50 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit during their growing period, which is about 60 to 70 days long.
